Oral Surgery
Oral surgery is the branch of dentistry that treats complex tooth extractions and complex jaw & tooth surgery.
Typically a patient will see an oral surgeon when he or she is having a wisdom tooth extracted and an implant placed.
Usually your family dentist will refer you to our Oral Surgeon when your dentist feels you would benefit from specialist care.
Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth is the term commonly for the last 4 teeth in your mouth.
People tend to have problems with their wisdom teeth when they do not grow at the right angle or are trapped behind other teeth.
Typically, this results in tooth ache, bad breath and sometimes headaches.

Extractions are carried out under local anesthetic.
Some patients will have sedation to make them relaxed.
In some cases patients would benefit from having the extractions carried out under a General Anesthetic. But this type of surgery would need to be carried out in a general hospital.
Most patients are fit to return to work in a few days and pain and swelling should have subsided in about 10 days.
